This poor man called, and the Lord heard him;
he saved him out of all his troubles (Psalm 34:6).
Our introduction to today's readings (watch the video here) begins with a prayer of David as he is fleeing for his life from King Saul. Praise the LORD that our God hears us as we cry out to him in the midst of our troubles. Read the history - 1 Samuel 20-21 - here. Then read David's prayer in Psalm 34 here.
Our New Testament reading contains a prayer by one of David's descendants as she gives thanks that the Lord has heard the prayers of His people over the centuries and is beginning their rescue. Read Mary's Magnificat and the birth of John the Baptist (Luke 1:46-66) here.
