Outdoor Service at 10:30 am Livestreamed

by Pastor Pete Panitzke on August 23, 2020

We are praying the rain holds off and we can enjoy the outdoor service at 10:30 am today. Bring your lawn chairs and enjoy the morning. If we are rained out, we will have the service at 10:30 am in the sanctuary. The 10:30 service will be livestreamed (click here) and on The Bridge Facebook page.

Attached are the service folders for the outdoor service with teacher installation, the recorded service (click here to worship online) and this week's Kids Club Family Lesson in which King David celebrates the LORD's goodness with dancing.

Daily Bible Reading - Making Long Range Plans

In our New Testament lesson (find Romans 15:14-16:5 here)  Paul shared his plans with the Christians in Rome. He had done mission work all over the northeastern part of the Mediterranean world. Now his desire was to go west to Spain. His letter to the Romans served to strengthen the congregation so they would be better prepared to help him with that mission work. Paul would arrive in Rome about 3 years later in chains. Paul's plans did not work out, but God's plans did and always do.

I think of long range plans as I read our Old Testament lesson (find 2 Chronicles 21-22 here)Our decisions today can bless or curse generations to come. Over and over the Chronicler mentions King David's positive impact on generations who came after him: "The LORD was not willing to destroy the house of David. He had promised to maintain a lamp for David and his descendants forever" (21:7). The reverse is also true. The Chronicler records Jehoram's ungodly decisions about his marriage partner and how he secured his throne. The result was disaster for his household.

Prayer: Jesus, David's Son and David's Lord, protect us and our physical and spiritual descendants from foolish, sinful decisions we might make. Guide us in all that we say and do so that generations to come might be blessed. We trust your promise: "I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the parents to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me, but showing love to a thousand generations of those who love me and keep my commandments" (Exodus 20:5-6). Amen.
