An Easter Faith is an Active Faith
In James 2 (read it here) , James, the brother of our Lord, teaches us that faith is not just saying the words. Faith in the risen Christ is a living and active thing. If faith is not evident in our lives, then we have no faith at all.
In Joshua 11-13 (read it here), the Israelites complete the conquest of the northern part of their territory. The complete destruction of these heathen nations is God's judgment on them, foretold five hundred years earlier to Abraham when God said, "The sins of the Amorites has not yet reached its full measure" (Genesis 15:16).
God's judgment on these heathen nations can serve as a call to repentance to us. How have we taken God's patience for granted? Is there evidence of the "dead faith" of James 2 in our lives? The answer is always, "Yes!" and the solution is always to go back to this Easter truth: "Christ was delivered over to death for our sins and was raised to life for our justification. Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand" (Romans 4:25-5:2).
Hallelujah! Christ is risen! We stand in our God's forgiving love!
Maps and Places
Much of the Old Testament lesson will be a "skim over it" section because there are so many place names. But a knowledge of basic Holy Land geography can make your Bible reading much more understandable. Check out the attached "Maps of Israel."
God bless your continuing celebration of our Savior's resurrection.
