A Taste Problem - November 2021

by Pastor Pete Panitzke on November 18, 2021

One of the symptoms of COVID is that you lose your taste and smell.

God's Old Testament people complained about a different "taste" problem. "The fathers eat sour grapes, and the children's teeth are set on edge." The next generation tastes the bitterness that the previous generous should have tasted. Watch the devotion here and read Ezekiel 17-18 here

The LORD was calling upon God's people to stop shifting the blame, to admit their own sin and find healing: "I take no pleasure in the death of anyone, declares the Sovereign Lord. Repent and live!"

God's desire that we admit our sin and receive eternal life is seen in our New Testament reading (find John 10:22-42 here).  Jesus is again in conflict with the Jewish leaders. It is to this hostile crowd that Jesus offers one of the most comforting Good Shepherd promises (John 10:27-28), Our Savior takes no pleasure in the death of anyone. Repent and live!

Prayer: Great Good Shepherd, you want none to be lost. Bless our congregation this evening as we extend a call to a man to serve as our Family Pastor. Lead us to a man who loves you and loves the call that moms and dads have to be spiritual leaders in their families. Lead us to a man who will help dads and moms fulfill their roles as Family Pastor in the Family Churches of our community. As you desire as the Great Good Shepherd to lose none of your children, so that is our fervent desire and prayer. Keep our children close to you and use our congregation and the pastor we call this evening to be part of the answer to this prayer. Amen.
