The Church Meets Opposition

The Church Meets Opposition | Acts 5:17-41

Shortly after the church begins, Jesus’ followers face opposition. Over and over, they are arrested and thrown into prison. They are beaten up and flogged or whipped. They are threatened and warned not to teach about Jesus anymore. But, do you know what happens? The first members of the Christian church continue to teach about Jesus, because that’s what Jesus told them to do.

With the help of God and the power of the Holy Spirit, Jesus’ disciples grow in boldness and courage. They keep telling others about Jesus and the salvation he won for everybody on the cross. And more, and more, and more people join God’s family.

Give us your strength, O God And courage to speak Perform your wondrous deeds Through those who are weak Lord, use us as you want, whatever the test By grace we'll preach your gospel Till our dying breath. Amen.
