• mercy over legalism (healing on the Sabbath)
• humility (take the lowest seat)
• generosity (help those who can't help you back)
• priorities (business or personal issues not as important as God's invitation)

Important lessons to learn. Difficult lessons to apply to ourselves. Have mercy on us, O Lord!

Our Old Testament lesson completes another skimming section day (1 Chronicles 26-27)   Early in his reign, King David was a warrior who led his troops, powerful in battle. Now, at the end of his reign, his focus shifts from the battlefield to the place of worship. We will especially see that in our reading for tomorrow.

How could David leave a legacy for generations to come?

David couldn't win the battles of the future, but he could prepare his people for those battles by doing all he could so that future generations knew the LORD.

I pray that King David serves as a mentor for all of us in this way.

We would like to fight all the battles for our children and grandchildren. We'd like them to have a comfortable, enjoyable life.

But they will have to fight their own battles.

Let us bless our children and grandchildren by giving them a chance to enjoy "table talk" with the Savior.

• By our priorities - Let your family see that there is nothing more important to you the Savior's weekly invitation to enjoy the banquet of God's Word in worship.
• By our humility - Let your family see that you know you are "least in the kingdom," confessing your own sins and claiming forgiveness.
• By our mercy - Let your family see the mercy you have received from the Savior in your mercy toward them and others. 
• By our generosity - Explain to your children and grandchildren how you determine your offerings. Let them in on your thinking of what percentage of your resources gives glory to God and shows your commitment to God's Kingdom work.
