How Satan must laugh when he spreads division within God’s church!

The Corinthian congregation was probably one of the largest of the congregations Paul founded. He served there for 18 months, much longer than the few weeks in each of the Macedonian churches. While Paul can acknowledge their giftedness, he also has to deal with divisions within the church. Read 1 Corinthians 3.

Satan blows up personalities. “I follow Paul.” “I follow Apollos.” “I follow Peter.” The last thing a faithful coworker of God wants is for personal followers. It is not about personalities. It is about Christ.

What a blessing we have at St. Paul’s that we have so many gifted spiritual leaders, called and elected! Pray for us that we as workers might always remain united, working together to lay the one foundation that matters – Christ Jesus himself. Pray for us as a congregation that we can celebrate the blessings that each worker brings to our congregation and yet focus on building our faith only on Christ.

That was certainly the prayer of the psalmist in Psalm 119:89-176. Even though the repetitious Hebrew writing style isn’t what we are accustomed to, we can still appreciate the prayer that God’s Word be the only thing that really matters.

Let us treasure the Word like the psalmist did. Then we shall be united in Christ and useful as God’s coworkers in building up his temple, the Church and each individual Christian.
