In the Old Testament (OT) times, God told his people to strictly observe a Sabbath day and keep it holy. When Jesus came, fulfilling all the OT laws and dying on the cross, the OT Sabbath was no longer in effect. Jesus gives us the true rest – the forgiveness of sins. Strictly observing a Sabbath day is no longer required. God does, however, want us to regard his Word as holy and true and eagerly hear, learn, obey, and share it. For most Christians, this includes going to church in some manner each week.
